The Barça youth product XI that the club sold for less than 15 million euros!

The sale of Marc Bartra to Borussia Dortmund for just eight million euros has revived the criticism of FC Barcelona for being incapable of receiving sufficient sums for the players that have progressed through their youth system, but are not able to find a place in the first team.

In fact, a full team can be created with the players who have left Barça at bargain prices when they had enough quality to have left much more in the Catalan club's bank balance.

Victor Valdes (0 euros)

The keeper left the club of his life in 2014, as a free agent. Months before his contract finalised, he had already announced his intention to leave, and that is how it proved. Despite injuring his knee in his final season, Barça failed to gain a penny for the man who became the best goalkeeper in the world for several years.

Hector Bellerin (0 euros)

The full back, who has recently been linked with a return to Barcelona, departed Barça's ranks when his time in the youth cadet team finalised. His destination was the Premier League, after he turned down Barcelona's contract offer. He left for free in 2011 and the player is now thought to be worth at least 20 million euros.

Marc Bartra (8 million euros)

The centre-back, tired of waiting, has given up on his dream of succeeding at Barça. Faced by the lack of confidence in him by the club, Bartra has signed for Dortmund, where he will receive full backing. 

As he has not participated in 30% of Barcelona games, the German club has been able to snap him up for just 8 million euros. Taking into account that Vermaelen cost 17 miilion euros, it is clear that Dortmund have got Bartra on the cheap. 

Marc Muniesa (0 euros)

Muniesa very quickly went from being one of the bright hopes of the youth team to leaving for free to Stoke City. Injuries stopped his progress and the club lost faith in a player that also left without any compensation.

Grimaldo (1.5 million euros)

Grimaldo, former Barça B captain, did not get on with Luis Enrique and decided to leave for Benfica in the last winter transfer window. The player had many offers and, taking into consideration the player's young age and the inflated market, the truth is that his price was low.

Jonathan Dos Santos (1.5 million euros)

The Mexican midfielder could not find a place at Barça and agreed a deal with Villarreal in 2014. Barcelona received 1.5 million euros in the transfer, for a player now valued by Transfermarkt at 6 million euros.

Victor Vazquez (0 euros)

Vazquez's case may be a while ago now, but the attacking midfielder was excellent with Barça B. Indeed the player has confirmed that in the Barcelona youth teams, people talked of him more than Messi. Unbelievably, Barça did not receive anything for a player that had already played in the Champions League with the club.

Thiago Motta (2 million euros)

The cultured left foot of this part-Italian, part-Brazilian was highly valued in Barcelona. Motta became a member of the first team squad, but lacked continuity in the team. In 2007, Atletico Madrid took the player for 2 million euros, and years later the player reached a market price of eight times more than was brought in by his sale. However it is true that the market inflated greatly in those years, and two million euros was worth more back then than it is now.

Bojan Krkic (1.8 million euros)

The pearl of the Barça youth system was expected to become the No. 9 of the first team after his record numbers in youth football. However, being a Barcelona striker is tough and the player from Linyola was one of those who, for some reason, could not maintain his place. After spells with Roma and Ajax, Stoke employed his services for a nominal sum.

Sandro Ramirez (0 euros)

The forward from the Canary Islands will leave Barça this summer on a free transfer. Robert Fernandez said the club would allow him to leave due to his good attitude, when there are English teams prepared to pay between five and 10 million euros for a striker that has already played several league and Champions League games.

Isaac Cuenca (0 euros)

It is hard to understand how a player that was a starter in the Champions League semi-finals against Chelsea in the 2011/12 season, can depart without leaving one euro in the club's accounts. It is true that a knee injury was an important factor, but not so much to justify Barça transferring him to Deportivo for free.

Along with these players, there are many more Barça youth products that left the club either free or for nominal fees. Here are some of them: Victor Sanchez (free), Rochina (500,000 euros), Espinosa (free), Carles Planas (free), Sergi Gomez (free), Fontas (1 million euros), Icardi (300,000 euros), Patric (free), Jonathan Soriano (1 million euros), Iago Falque (1 million euros), Jordi Gomez (free), Oier (free), Dongou (free), Marc Crosas (500,000 euros), Oscar Lopez (200,000 euros), Damia (1 million euros), Sergio Garcia (1.5 million euros), Oleguer (3 million euros), Trashorras (free).

With that said, there have been some profitable sales, although at times also insufficient given the player's performance. These are: Sanabria (4.5 million euros), Jeffren (3.75 million euros), Denis Suarez (4 million euros), Pique (5 million euros), Fernando Navarro (6 million euros), Adama Traore (10 million euros), Thiago (24 million euros) and Deulofeu (6 million euros). In fact, Sanabria and Denis Suarez are currently two of Barça's targets for the new season.

The disappointment felt by part of the Barcelona fans with the club's decisions regarding the sales of youth products is accentuated when comparing them to Real Madrid. Bayer Leverkusen paid 5 million euros for Carvajal when he had not yet appeared in the first team. Hoffenheim paid six million euros for Joselu when he was still at Castilla and Villarreal paid seven million euros for Diego Lopez when he was substitute for Casillas.
