Barça have lost just one of their last 38 matches

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has explained to ESPN the reason for Ernesto Valverde's success at Barcelona.

Valverde took over from Luis Enrique last summer and has yet to taste defeat in the league, with Barça now unbeaten in 31 La Liga games (inlcuding seven from last season), equalling the club record.

Ter Stegen says the Valverde's honest has been key, but that it's the fresh perspective he's offered which has really helped.

"[Valverde] has been very important because we are playing how he wants us to play," the German international goalkeeper said.

"He is very straight with what we are doing wrong or right. From my point of view, he always tries to see it from another direction, not just of a coach who is always seeing his team playing or adapt or change small things, he tries to see it as another coach or [he thinks] 'how would you face Barca?'

"This is good because he was at Bilbao before and he knew exactly where we were struggling sometimes... and we were always struggling against Bilbao!

"It was very interesting to see how he was seeing us and maybe at the beginning this was a bit difficult but then step-by-step we have seen what he wants us to do and now we are doing what he wants us to do."

Since the Spanish Super Cup, Barça have lost just once in 38 games going into Tuesday's Champions League game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
