Marc-Andre ter Stegen returns to Barça training on Thursday

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has decided to unilaterally return to Barcelona training 11 days ahead of schedule, as the German looks to get the upper hand on fellow goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

The 24-year-old wasn't expected back before August 8 - along with his fellow team-mates who took part in Euro 2016 and the Copa America - and will be present at the Ciutat Esportiva on Thursday before travelling to Birmingham. And it seems the Ter Stegen won't be alone, as several other players will also cut short their post-season break to begin preparations for the new season.

Ter Stegen took this same decision last year in a bid to force Luis Enrique's hand into choosing him as his firm choice as the club's no.1.

His choice, however, backfired horribly as the first-leg of the Supercopa de Espana saw the former Borussia Mochengladbach man concede four goals against Athetlic Club and thus ended his aspirations for last season to become the undisputed starter in goal

The Blaugrana are currently training at St. George's Park in England ahead of their game in the International Champions Cup against Celtic on July 30.

While it's doubtful that Ter Stegen will play any part in that game, he will, nevertheless, join-up with the squad on Thursday and could feature in Stockholm on August 3 when Barça face Leicester City.
