Ter Stegen broke Rafinha's nose in unfortunate clash vs. Athletic

Barcelona midfielder Rafinha's bad luck with injuries continues after the club confirmed he broke his nose during Saturday's 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao.

Rafinha was taken off in the early stages of the second half of the game at Camp Nou after an unfortunate clash with goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen's knee.

While being attended to on the pitch by club doctor Ricard Pruna, footage showed the Brazilian was bleeding quite heavily after suffering a cut to his head.

A club statement has now confirmed he broke his nose, too, and will miss Tuesday's Copa del Rey semifinal against Atletico Madrid.

"The club’s medical services have carried out tests and confirmed that the first team player Rafinha has a fractured nose," it said.

"His return will depend on how his injury heals."

Rafinha had only just returned from a hamstring problem as a second half substitute in the 2-1 semifinal first leg win over Atletico last week.

Earlier this season he also missed two weeks with a rib injury and he was sidelined for the majority of last season with knee ligament damage.

Gerard Pique was also taken off on Saturday with a thigh problem, but the club have not revealed if it will keep him out of Tuesday's game.

Luis Enrique said he hopes to have the central defender back speaking after the Athletic match but could not make any promises.

The Barca boss also hopes to have Sergio Busquets and Andres Iniesta available after both returned to first team training at the end of last week.
