Technical Committee of Referees say Mallenco right to award Messi goal

Luis Suarez was in an offside position but it's been ruled he was not interfering with play

Lionel Messi’s controversial opening goal against Valencia, which featured a possible offside from Luis Suarez, has taken a step closer to being resolved. The Technical Committee of Referees feel that Undiano Mallenco was right to give the goal.

According to a specialist in these matters, Isaac Fouto speaking to COPE, the said Committee’s report says that the distance between Suarez and Diego Alves was enough for the Uruguayan not to be interfering with play. Therefore, Mallenco was right to give the goal and allow Barça to take the lead.

It was the 22nd minute when Messi scored the goal and Suarez appeared offside. The Valencia players and their bench complained immediately that the goal was offside, but the Technical Committee of Referees feel the strike was completely legal.
