Tata Martino admits he could have done better analysis before taking Barcelona job

Tata Martino, currently coach of Argentina, admitted he did not thoroughly analyse the situation when he moved to Barcelona and that it could have influenced his failure at the club.

In an interview with the agency DPA, he said: "It's a sight that I did not analyse, and I did not go well," he admitted in Buenos Aires.

He spoke about various topics, including Xavi Hernandez and the evolution of Lionel Messi.

Asked about Messi's progress as a player, and how the Barca forward will be at the next World Cup in 2018, at 31 years old, Martino replied:

"It's unpredictable, like he is as a player. It's difficult to establish what we will find.

"One could think that with a bit of time passing he maybe plays a bit deeper and without as much "bang", as he has already done.

"Or you can imagine him going to one side, taking more opportunities to get one one one. He has also done this.

"Everything that could happen to Leo goes exclusively by what he encounters. Playing 60 or 65 games a year and deciding games can make you physically and psychologically exhausted."

And asked if Xavi was an obstacle for him at Barca, Martino replied: "No. He played most of the matches. He did not play the last match with Atletico Madrid, but no."
