"Take that" say Ole after Messi beats Ronaldo to another award

Argentina's press have gone big on Lionel Messi on Thursday after the Barcelona star won more individual honours.

At a ceremony in Monaco on Thursday, Messi was named the best player in Europe and was awarded the prize for the best goal in last season's Champions League for his chip against Bayern Munich.

For the first award, he beat off competition from Luis Suarez and Cristiano Ronaldo, who is pictured alongside Messi on the front cover of the newspaper Ole.

"Take that," they write as the headline, in reference to Messi beating Ronaldo to the award.

Ole were one of the newspapers to criticise Messi after Argentina fell short in the Copa America this summer.

And that criticism at last provoked a response from Messi on Thursday, who hit back at claims he was considering taking a break from the national team.

"The more they criticise me, the less I care," he said in reference to the fall out from Argentina's defeat to Chile in the final.
