Srna: There's no doubt that Luka Modric is world's best midfielder
The one-time Barcelona target was full of praise for the Real Madrid maestro
Former Croatian international Darijo Srna was close to becoming a Barcelona player in Janaury. Aleix Vidal's return to form and the economics of the operation slowed down negotiations, though, and the player finally opted to remain with Shakhtar Donetsk.
The right-back preferred not to talk about what happened with the Catalan club. In fact, in an interview with Marca, the veteran forgot Barça completely when it came to naming the world's best midfield player.
"Modric is the best midfielder in the world at the moment. No doubt. I'm not saying one of the best, I'm saying he is the best," he said about his former international team-mate and close friend.
Srna, who also had words of praise for Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic, commented on Ivan Rakitic's form, with the Croatian to exempt from Luis Enrique's rotations this season.
He said: "Rakitic has demonstrated his quality many times. He scored in the Champions League final! I'm sure he will work hard to get back to his best form. I have a lot of confidence in Rakitic."
