Aleix Vidal has waved goodbye to the season after Theo Hernandez’s tackle on Saturday which left him with a dislocated ankle. He will be out for five months.

Vidal was operated on in a Vitoria hospital and will head back home on Sunday after staying there overnight. Club doctor Yanguas stayed with him.

SPORT were the only Catalan print media publication that remained in the hospital to cover Vidal’s injury.

At 11am on Sunday Pepe Costa arrived, player liaison officer, Xavier Guarte from the press department and Robles from security. There was a transit van with a Barcelona badge also there, presumably to pick up Vidal from the hospital.

At 11.40 Vidal emerged from the hospital and headed back to Barcelona by motorway. “Everything went well, thanks to everyone,” he said on his way out.
