SPORT report: Samper will become first team squad member

Sergi Samper will become an official Barça first team squad member.

That is what has been agreed on Thursday morning, in a meeting between the player, his agents and the sporting area of the club.

The midfielder will renew his deal with Barcelona for four years, and be given a first team contract.

The signing of the paperwork will take place next week, once all loose ends are tied up. These include bonuses and the release clause, which may vary depending on the seasons and player participation.

During the meeting, the club representatives have highlighted the faith that coach Luis Enrique has in the player, and his adaptation to the first team.

The youth product knows that his role is not easy, and is fully aware of the quantity and quality of midfielders that the manager can call upon.

Each side has also agreed a new meeting to take place in August to evaluate the progression of the player and his situation in the squad.

The Catalan player understands the need to keep growing as a footballer through competitive and quality playing time.

If the opportunities arrive, Samper will fight for his place as another squad member, but if his role becomes an absolutely secondary one, he would be favourable to a loan move before the summer transfer market closes.
