Sergio Rico and the woodwork deny Barça as Sevilla snatch three points

A second half penalty from Neymar was not enough to stop Barcelona losing their second game in league game of the season, with goals from Michael Krohn-Dehli and Vicente Iborra helping Sevilla pick up a 2-1 win.

For Sevilla, it was just their second victory of the campaign, while for their manager, Unai Emery, it was his first every win against Barça.

Many may point to Lionel Messi's absence, but on another day Luis Enrique's side might have won the game 5-2. Only a combination of poor finishing, Sergio Rico and the woodwork combined to somehow keep Neymar, Luis Suarez and Co. out.

An open first half began with Iborra chipping just over and ended with Luis Suarez clipping the top of the crossbar. In between, both sides were guilty of wasting chances.

Rico was definitely the busier of the two goalkeepers on show. He made early saves from Sergi Roberto and Neymar as Barcelona looked to banish the memory of their last outing away from home, when they were heavily beaten by Celta Vigo.

There were whistles for Gerard Pique every time he touched the ball from the home fans and the Barça defender had to be switched on as Sevilla put him and his teammates under pressure.

Claudio Bravo, who was restored to the Barça line-up in place of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, had to be alert to save a header from Kevin Gameiro.

However, despite the open, exciting nature of the game, it was Barça who were having the better chances. Suarez should have done better when a delightful Neymar run created an opening for the Uruguayan.

A Neymar free-kick then somehow failed to cross the line. After hitting the post, it ricocheted of Rico's back, onto the post again and then rolled across the line. Pique reacted slowly and was unable to prod it in.

Suarez then fluffed another chance following a fine Ivan Rakitic pass, with his frustrating afternoon continuing when a teasing effort hit the bar before half-time.

The second half started at a similar pace and Sevilla were soon creating the better chances. In the 52nd minute, the breakthrough at last arrived. Gamiero had too much pace for Jordi Alba and Jeremy Mathieu down the left and the Frenchman's cross was turned in by Krohn Dehli.

Before Barça had time to react, they were two goals down, Krohn Dehli the creator this time. His cross was deftly headed home by Iborra.

Then came the Barcelona onslaught; then came Neymar vs. Sergio Rico. The Sevilla goalkeeper, named in Spain's squad on Friday, made three saves from the Brazilian in less than a minute, with one of them especially impressive.

A handball from Benoit Tremoulinas at last allowed Luis Enrique's side back into the game, with Neymar converting from the penalty spot on his 100th appearance for the Catalan club.

Substitue Sandro Ramirez hit the post as Barça spent the final 15 minutes probing for an equaliser, but Sevilla emerged victorious as they game descended into a game of pinball in the home side's penalty area.

However, unlike on Tuesday night against Bayer Leverkusen, there was to be no Barcelona comeback. Instead, for their second successive away game in La Liga, they came away with nothing.
