Sergi Samper: 13 years at Barcelona and a first team debut (videos)

After joining the club as a six-year-old, Sergi Samper made his Barcelona debut on Wednesday night in the 1-0 win against APOEL in the Champions League - quite the stage to take your bow.

Playing as the deepest in a three-man midfield, the 19-year-old, bar a couple of stray passes, will have been very pleased with how things went.

Playing in the Sergio Busquets role against the Cypriots, Samper has often been compared to Barça's current No. 5.

However, there have been plenty of other comparisons along the way, including with the likes of Andrea Pirlo and, more importantly, perhaps, Josep Guardiola.

Samper, since joining the Escola as kid, has never pulled on another shirt and there are few, if any, players who can claim that when they make their Barcelona debut.

He's likely to feature more for Barça B this season, still, but on Wednesday night a star was born.
