Sergi Samper: A new contract and a loan away from Barça?

Sergi Samper: A new contract and a loan away from Barça?

Barcelona have the intention of extending Sergi Samper's contract, which ends in June 2017, to secure his future, but the Catalan footballer may, in the medium-term, have to leave the club to get minutes at a good level. That is likely to be a loan, but he could also be sold with a buy-back fee.

Samper, currently injured, will return to training at the start of next season with the first-team.

The idea is that he has the pre-season there and after that, the technical team will decide what's best for the player and his future. In terms of progress he needs to play, and with Sergio Busquets around, that's very tricky.

English football clubs like Samper, including Arsenal, which could be his destination. Man City are also interested in recent months - Guardiola knows him from when he was at Barcelona.

The player's dream is to triumph at Barça but knows it will be tough with Busquets here, who plays in his very position - although Samper has played as an interior on occasion. Barcelona know he has a lot of potential and want to keep him, though his release fee clause is 12m euros.
