Sergi Roberto: Gap between Real Madrid and Barça isn't that big

The right-back is optimistic despite dropping two points in the last minute of the Clasico

Barcelona right-back Sergi Roberto said that the team are perfectly capable of making up the six point gap Real Madrid have built at the top of the league. He also defended Barça's style, even if "sometimes we look for solutions to get forward more directly."

The player from Reus was optimistic about Barça's future in La Liga despite the Clasico result. "We could have cut the gap on Madrid, but I don't think that the points difference is that big and if we give 100 percent, we will cut the gap," he insisted.

"You can't relax against Madrid, they always score late goals. [Sergio] Ramos is a dangerous player, but have other strong players in the air, too. It was difficult [to take] because they scored in the last minute. We think we deserved three points but it wasn't to be," Sergi Roberto added.

He also said that the team is "in good spirits and keen to push forward" despite the Clasico draw and refused to blame the midfielders for Barça's dip in form: "We have a complete midfield, players who are at a great level. Maybe we are not playing as well as we can, but that's not the midfield's fault, it's a team issue. We have to keep playing hard together and titles [will be] won by the work of the team."

TRUE TO STYLE

Sergi Roberto also dedended the idea that Barça continue true to their philosophy, despite the fact some nuances have been introduced to their game. "We've had the same style for many years, but sometimes we analyse the rival and look for different solutions. The style is still the same, but sometimes you look for a more direct way to attack."

On his role as a right-back, he said he must "keep improving" and that the toughest thing is "stopping the opposition when they counter-attack."

As for the game against Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League, a game which has no meaning in terms of standings in the group, Roberto said it's "an important game to continue improving, to correct some aspects of our game and to build confidence. We've drawn three in a row and it's important to change that dynamic."
