Sergi Roberto gets his reward for excellent season at Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto’s contract, as revealed by SPORT in March, will automatically improve due to his excellent performances throughout the 2015-16 season.

With two important games left to go, against Granada to decide La Liga and Sevilla in the final of the Copa del Rey, Sergi Roberto has already played enough matches to activate certain clauses in his deal.

As Luis Enrique has used him in at least 60 percent of the club’s official games during the current campaign, his salary will automatically be increased as he has hit the pre-established scales.

In addition, his release clause will rise from 30 million euros to 40 million euros in relation to his wage rise, but also in relation to his contribution to the team this season.

The 2015-16 season has seen the 24-year-old become a regular in the first team, not always as a starter, but nominally as the first choice back up to Luis Enrique’s ‘Gala XI’.

In addition, Sergi Roberto has demonstrated that he can adapt to almost any position. He has played in defence, filling in for Dani Alves, and also in attack, taking Lionel Messi’s place in the Clasico, as well as in his more natural midfield position.

Definitively, the steps the academy product has taken forward this season have been rewarded with an automatic contract improvement.
