Sergi Roberto delighted he U-turned on summer departure

Sergi Roberto admits he is relieved he decided to stay at Barcelona in the summer.

After a lack of minutes last season, the 23-year-old was thinking about leaving the club and was weighing up offers in England.

However, Luis Enrique talked him into staying and after making his sixth La Liga start of the season against Rayo Vallecano, he’s happy he stayed put.

“I have a lot of confidence and now I am getting minutes, something which I really appreciate,” Roberto said. “If I had left, I would have regretted it.”

Having played as a right-back at times this season, Roberto began the 5-2 win over Rayo in midfield.

“It is always complicated to play against Rayo,” he continued. “We knew that they would leave us space, though, and possession is always well-disputed with them.

“We lost the ball a lot and they knew how to take care of the ball, but we did well in the end [to get the win].”

The Catalan also added that he is “delighted” for Neymar, who struck four goals in the victory and created the fifth for Luis Suarez.
