Schubert defends Neymar: I've never seen him show a lack of respect

The Gladbach boss was full of praise for the Barcelona forward and his qualities

Andre Schubert has defended Barcelona star Neymar’s style of play as he prepares his Borussia Monchengladbach side for Wednesday’s Champions League game against the Spanish champions, praising the talent and the quality of the Brazilian attacker.

During his pre-game press conference for the match at Borussia Park, Schubert answered many questions. Among them was one asking if he felt Neymar’s showboating could be perceived as provocative.

The German coach, though, did not criticise the 24-year-old: “Neymar always wants to demonstrate his immense quality, he’s a top notch player, but I’ve never seen him show a lack of respect to anyone.”

Schubert continued: “I don’t like it when players show a lack of respect to their rivals, but I’ve never seen Neymar do something like that. He demonstrates his technique and his ability.”

The words of the Borussia manager help to put the lid on a topic which dominated the build up to the Atletico Madrid draw last week. Some people feel Neymar showed a lack of respect against Leganes with his tricks, with Atleti defender Juanfran suggesting he sometimes go too far.
