Samuel Umtiti set to miss 15 days with knee ligament strain

The centre-back will likely miss all of Barcelona's games leading up to the next international break

Samuel Umtiti will not play on Wednesday against Atletico Madrid and is also not expected to be back for the games against Sporting Gijon, Borussia Monchengladbach and Celta Vigo. SPORT have learned the player is likely to miss two weeks, even though Barcelona did not publish an expected return time after he suffered a knee ligament strain.

"Defender Umtiti suffered an internal ligament strain on his left knee during Tuesday morning's training session," read Barcelona's statement.

"Therefore, the Frenchman will miss the match against Atletico Madrid at Camp Nou. The progression of his injury will determine exactly how long he will be out for."

This season there has already been a precedent set in this regard, with Andres Iniesta suffering a similar injury and returning in little more than two weeks. Umititi is next likely to feature for Barcelona on October 15, after the international break.
