Roma's Maicon: We were lucky to only lose 6-1

Roma right-back Maicon says the Serie A side were lucky to only lose 6-1 to Barcelona on Tuesday.

The Italian side were taken a part by a rampant Barça side who were fresh from putting four goals past Real Madrid in Saturday’s Clasico.

Lionel Messi, making his first start since returning from two months out, scored twice, as did Luis Suarez. 

Defenders Gerard Pique and Adriano completed the rout, with Edin Dzeko scoring a late consolation. 

"We tried to play our football, but tonight we did not manage to do anything," Maicon told Mediaset Premium.

"We were lucky to lose only 6-1 actually - we never really tried to play, we did zero, nothing.

"Our objectives for the season do not change but we have to play differently from tonight."

Roma now have to win their final game against BATE Borisov to confirm their place in the last 16 with Barcelona, who have already sealed top spot in Group E.
