Renewing Neymar is the best 'signing' Barcelona will make this summer

Barcelona's best signing of the 2016-17 season is Neymar. Without any doubt. Samuel Umtiti will come, a forward may come (although it won't be Nolito, who has joined Pep Guardiola at Manchester City), a full-back, too, or even a midfielder, but the biggest signing is keeping hold of Neymar until 2021. 

With the official confirmation of an open secret (SPORT announced the renewal on February 15), all the speculation surrounding Neymar's future ends. It was nearly always self-interested speculation. From the media in Madrid, whose only plan was to destabilise Barça. And, why not say it, from the player's representatives, who were pressing for more money.

Neymar will become the second highest paid player at FC Barcelona once he signs the new deal, only behind Lionel Messi. A Messi who is still the No.1, but Neymar must take on that role in time. For now, he's well tied down with a 250 million euro release clause, ensuring no-one can try and 'rob' the Brazilian.
