5 reasons to fear Barcelona will collapse and hand Madrid the title

If anything characterises Real Madrid it is their commendable refusal to abdicate. Few teams have historically shown the same ability to compete in any circumstances and not give up. This season is a good example, with the team in seeming freefall under Rafa Benitez, but now two games from a potential double. It all comes down to Saturday, and here are five arguements for Los Blancos success...

1. The return of Gareth Bale

The Welsh forward has been hugely important in the final stretch of the season. He has made the difference this season and led the team through moments of adversity. After resting against Valencia, he will be ready to help Madrid like he won them games against Rayo and Real Sociedad, and then Manchester City.

2. The impact of Zizou

The numbers are clear - Zidane's arrival has had a positive effect on Madrid. Since his arrival they have 50 points from 19 game-weeks. 16 wins, two draws and one defeat. In the same time, Luis Enrique's team have 46 points (15 wins, 1 draw and three defeats). That means Barcelona have played an extra game too, against Sporting, which they won after it was postponed because of the Club World Cup.

3. The infiltrators

There are various players at Granada and Depor who have featured for Madrid and Barca. David Barral, at Granada, is one ex-Madrid player. He grew at their academy before heading elsewhere. Meanwhile Isaac Cuenca, formerly of Barcelona, says he would love to score the goal which denies his old team the title.

At Deportivo there are former Madrid players - Pedro Mosquera, Juanfran Laure and coach Victor Sanchez.

4. Recent last day stats

Since 2000-01, Barcelona have won seven times on the last day, drawn six and lost two games. The last two years they drew, against Deportivo and Atletico.

5. Kilometres in their legs

Tiredness is another factor in the final week. Barcelona have played 10 games more in 2016, with the Club World Cup often punishing the teams that compete in it.

Barcelona seem to have got over their horrible month. An April that has marked their season. In Madrid they hope for a last minute failure to stop the clear favourites for the title...
