How Adrien Rabiot could have signed for Barcelona in 2014

His explosion at PSG could have been different if things had gone a different way in 2014. Then Rabiot was an 18 year old

Just like Cavani, Verratti, Meunier and most PSG players, Adrien Rabiot is being hailed by the media after his fine performance against Barcelona. The French centre midfielder is having a good season but Tuesday night was his consecration. Rabiot had a great game and confirmed that as well as having a big future he is already an impressive player now.

His explosion at PSG could have been different if things had gone a different way in 2014. Then Rabiot was an 18 year old who did not know if he could get into the PSG team. He had debuted but had a B team salary. With a lot of quality layers ahead of him he thought it was difficult to break through into Laurent Blanc's side and considered an exit.

His mother and agent Valerie, spoke with Barcelona in the summer, who had just appointed Luis Enrique as coach. With Rakitic having joined, Barcelona decided not to move for Rabiot. The sporting director at the time, Andoni Zubizarreta, could not offer him first team football. The offer was to sign for the B team, an option which Rabiot was not convinced by. The price was also a stumbling block.

Despite that, Barcelona have kept an eye on him for three years, although his potential signing would now be an expensive and difficult operation to complete, with PSG determined to keep the 21 year old star.
