Player ratings: Pique and Iniesta flop as Barcelona slip up at Real Madrid
Bravo 5 - His clean sheet record, which always seemed fortuitously gained, was wiped out here. Looked very small in his goal for Pepe's header. No chance with the first or third.
Alves 4 - Ineffectual going forward, shaky at the back. Not the Brazilian's finest hour.
Pique 3 - Slid down to reach Marcelo's cross and handled it, giving away a penalty. Anoher mistake to add to his catalogue. Lucky not to give away a fourth goal when he let himself be tackled in his own box.
Mascherano 4 - Typical battling tacklng when required, but his partnership with Pique always looked breachable - and clearly was. Jointly culpable for Madrid's third with Iniesta and Rakitic.
Mathieu 5 - He likes playing at left-back and was keen to get forward when he could - but should probably work on his crossing. As worrying as his team-mates when it came to the defending.
Busquets 6 - Good tackle on James to stop a Real Madrid breakaway, but was fighting a losing battle and couldn't stem Madrid's tide.
Xavi 5 - Started off nicely but when Madrid turned it up a notch he looked lost.
Iniesta 3 - First big impact on the game was taking out Modric and picking up a booking. The second was getting mixed up over a loose ball with Mascherano and the result was Madrid scoring their third. Then he got injured.
Suarez 6 - Made an instant impact as a Barcelona player on his debut, pinging the ball from right to left for Neymar, who took it down and scored the opener. A good turn in midfield helped open up a gap in the second half but as Neymar played it back to him was harshly penalised. Not a bad individual start, even if it was a terrible result.
Messi 4 - Booked early on after committing two uncharacteristic fouls, and then committed an even more uncharacteristic miss, from just a couple of yards out.
Neymar 6 - Has had an amazing start to the season looked set to continue it here, scoring an excellent opening goal. Picked up a yellow card for a strong arm on Carvajal and after that his influence waned.

Ivan Rakitic 3 - His pathetic corner gave the ball straight back to Madrid, who broke downfield and scored, to take the game out of Barcelona's reach. Drilled a poor effort wide.
