The Barcelona defender posted a fragment of an article in the newspaper Marca in which Barça's supporters were questioned for cheering their team despite the Champions League exit at the hands of Juventus on Wednesday.

Pique compared the reaction of the Blaugrana supporters to that of the home fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, where star players have been whistled and jeered even when winning games.

As an example, after Madrid beat Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Ronaldo, who had scored a hat-trick, requested that the fans did not whistle him anymore.

The message from Pique read: "For some it rankles to see Camp Nou applause despite going out of Europe. They are used to hearing whistles despite reaching the semifinals."

Pique also took to Twitter last night to thank the fans for their support: "Thanks, fans. I have never seen Camp Nou react like that after being knocked out. Pride and emotion."

Gerard Pique was also caught up in a social media storm on Tuesday when he tweeted "..." after Cristiano Ronaldo's offside goal against Bayern.
