"Pique needs to keep himself away from the speculation and rumours"

One of the main talking points in Luis Enrique's press conference on Friday afternoon was Gerard Pique

The defender has come under scrutiny this past week for his performance in the Clasico defeat to Real Madrid.

Luis Enrique, who doesn't often comment on these sorts of topics, refused to become embroiled in the debate and suggested Pique will continue in the team.

"We value people's form weekly and based on the moment," the Barça boss said.

"That way we can make the best decisions for the team."

Questions were also asked about Premier League interest in Pique, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United keen on the player.

"All players have to be ready to face situations like this," he responded.

"There are comments about his form, about a transfer... it's part of being an elite player and he must know how to keep himself out of it."

The final Pique debate was about his recent behaviour.

He was caught on his phone during the match against Espanyol in midweek in the Catalan Super Cup while sitting on the bench.

"I will look at the images now and assess them - if there is something to assess of judge," Luis Enrique concluded.
