Pique lends his support to video technology in football

The Barça defender feels it's a matter of time until it's widely incorporated into the game

Gerard Pique believes that sooner of later video technology will be used across football.

The Barcelona defender is not sure how it will be ruled out, but he is certain that it will become an essential part of the game.

“It’s something that football will implement, especially for key moments -- tt’s just a question of time," he said in a Facebook Live Q&A.

He highlighted that "technology is vital and fundamental in any sport, look at the NBA, American football…"

For that reason, Pique is of the opinion that football has "to follow these trends, although it’s another thing [to decide] if it’s only applies for important moments, in the final minutes… We will have to see.

"Sooner of later it will appear in football. You have to modernise, as they're doing in other sports."

Video technology has already to begin to creep into the game away from Spain.

Goal line technology is available in England's Premier League and video referees were tested at the Club World Cup in December.
