Paco Alcacer is 'mentally prepared' for substitute role at Barça

Barcelona sporting director Robert Fernandez say Paco Alcacer is mentally prepared for a backup role at the club.

The striker signed from Valencia on Monday for 30 million euros and will join up with his new team-mates after the international break.

However, he's unlikely to start against Alaves next weekend as he's been brought in to provide cover for Luis Suarez.

Robert says Alcacer understands why he's been signed: "He's mentally prepared to be a substitute.

"Suarez is the best No.9 in the world. He's on another level.

"Paco Alcacer is a really good player, he will bring things to the team, but he has to learn from the best.

"We were looking for a striker for when Suarez isn't playing. A player who is good in the area."

On spending so much player on a reserve player, Robert defended Barça's outlay.

He added: "A former Valencia sporting director said yesterday that Alcacer had left on the cheap.

"We've signed a good player and he'll help a lot. He has to learn from the best.

"I've told him where he's coming and what he will find. I've told all the signings what they can expect from the very first day."
