The French defender is set to move to Sporting Lisbon next season

Barça have told the player that he doesn't have a future at the club

Jeremy Mathieu is not longer a Barcelona player, according to various reports in Portugal. Both OJogo and Record claim the French defender has reached an agreement to rescind his contract with the Catalan club.

In recent days it had been revealed that Mathieu has reached an agreement with Sporting Lisbon over a two-year deal. However, the signing is still pending the player's departure from Barça, where he still has one year on his contract.

That, according to the reports, has not happened following a meeting in which the Blaugrana supposedly agree to let Mathieu leave for free. Remember that Mathieu was earning a big wage at Barca and will receive less at Sporting -- around two million euros net per season.

Mathieu's people have admitted they've held talks with Sporting, although there has also been interest from various other clubs around Europe in the versatile defender. Barça told the player a while back that he was free to look for a new club as he was not in their plans for next season.

Sources at Barça have said that the rescision of Mathieu's contract, though, has still not been finalised.
