NTV Spor: Besiktas offer seven million euros for Mathieu

Barça could be set to lose another defender in Jeremy Mathieu ahead of next season, with reports in Turkey alleging that the Frenchman is being tracked by Besiktas.

NTVSpor.net claims that Besiktas have made a seven million euros offer for the former Valencia player, who is about to begin his third season at the Camp Nou.

Besiktas president, Fikret Oman, would personally lead negotiations according to the Turkish website. A few weeks ago, the Black and Whites also tried to instigate a move for fellow Barça defender Thomas Vermaelen, but talks were unsuccessful.

 With the addition of Samuel Umtiti, the Blaugrana now have five players in the centre-back position, which is why Besiktas see this as an ideal opportunity to try to tempt Mathieu away from Catalonia.

Mathieu joined Barça for 20 million euros in the summer of 2014 and isn't seen as an essential part of Luis Enrique's plans. Still, the 32-year-old has been the first choice when either Gerard Pique or Javier Mascherano have been unavailable for selection.
