Nolito reveals why he chose to snub Barça

Nolito has given the reasons for deciding to move to Manchester City over Barcelona after one of the summer's longest transfer soap operas came to an end.

The 29-year-old told The Guardian in China - where the Blues are currently competing in the International Champions Cup - that Pep Guardiola's arrival as the club's new coach was one of the decisive factors in finalising a deal for 18 million euros.

During the 2010/11 season, Nolito trained under the Catalan mastermind and recalled his memories of their brief time together in Catalonia.

"I had fun working with him, even if it wasn't for long," Nolito began, "Guardiola is one reason [why I joined City] but not the only.

"City have built a great team with their project, and the motivation to help them achieve great things convinced me."

Barça coach Luis Enrique also worked with Nolito during his two years as Celta Vigo coach, and the Asturian was keen to bring the forward back to the Camp Nou. But Nolito was more than aware that if he signed for the Blaugrana that he would be relegated to the bench behind the "MSN" trio.

"[The proposed move to Barça] was something I talked to my family and representative about," Nolito concluded, "I think the decision I took [to move to City] was the best outcome for my career.

"I feel fortunate to have played for Barça, I wish them the best and I'm very proud of the interest they showed in me."
