Neymar says 'no' to PSG to renew with Barcelona

Neymar will continue with FC Barcelona. The Brazilian has reached an agreement with the club to extend his current deal until 2022 with an improved salary. Talks have now closed and announcement could come in the next week if both parties feel it's the right moment. Neymar has bet on Barça's sporting project, turning down a mega offer from Paris Saint-Germain, who offered much more than the Blaugrana. The renewal could be announced at an event with the player.

It was almost an open secret, but the reality is that Neymar has given his word to Barça after negotiations which proved complicated, due to the interest from other clubs. It's been the forward's own determination to stay at the Catalan club, though, which has seen him reject better proposals to make his stay at Camp Nou possible. Neymar will retrospectively improve his contract and will become the second highest paid player in the squad, just behind Lionel Messi. The agreement has been brewing for months and, finally, a few days the final OK was given on both sides of the deal.

Neymar's representatives have not understood the recent speculation regarding his future, despite the fact it's true that PSG tried to pay his 190 million euro release clause and make him the best paid player in the world. Ney understands his cycle at Barça has not ended and accepts the challenge to continue playing with Messi to win as many titles as possible. His contract will now expire in 2022, which means it's more than likely he will become the club's franchise player in the future.

His release clause will increase to 225 million euros, a number which should be enough scare away any possible buyers, even though the numbers in the football world continue to rise at a rapid rate. Neymar's father has been key in the process and, at the moment, he is in Sao Paulo, although he could travel to Spain for the Copa del Rey final and then be in Barcelona for the announcement of the renewal. They are very satisfied with the Barça's offer. The Catalan club presented them with an acceptable contract in line with the aspirations of the player. But they are upset with certain poison reported about non-existent negotiations with European clubs who have never made an offer for the 24-year-old.
