Neymar remains 'relaxed & optimistic' over new contract

Neymar had no objection to speaking about his future after Barcelona’s game with Celta Vigo. Happy and relaxed after a big victory, the Brazilian came through the mixed zone to speak to the media.

After talking about the penalty - which he claimed Lionel Messi meant to pass to him, not Luis Suarez - he clarified the situation regarding his contract with Barça.

The 24-year-old has a deal with the club until the end of June in 2018 and a release clause of 190 million euros, while talks have been going on longer than expected.

Despite the rumours of offers from half of Europe, including Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Florentino Perez’s Real Madrid, Neymar sent a message to the FC Barcelona fans.

“The renewal [talks] are underway. I still have three years left on my contract and I am relaxed. I’m optimistic we will reach an agreement,” he said.

Away from that, Neymar is only focusing on what happens on the pitch.

In this sense, the forward pointed out that “we have 10 very difficult days ahead of us, with travelling and really important games.”

In concrete, Neymar has one eye on the Champions League game against Arsenal at the Emirates.

“We are really happy with the run of good results we are on, for what we have achieved so far and for how we are playing,” he added.

“We want to continue this way. Arsenal is on the horizon, they’re a great team and it will be a tough tie, but we are going to play our way to [try and] win.”
