Neymar: Messi penalty was for me, not Suarez!

Neymar explained that the penalty Lionel Messi took for Luis Suarez’s goal was meant for him.

“We had worked on it in training and the penalty was for me, but in the end ‘el gordo’ was closer and scored the goal,” he said. 

The Brazilian recognised it was a risky move: “Yes, but so is everything in a game. We prepared a lot [for the move] and it’s come off.”

For Neymar, the generosity of Messi is a reflection of the connection between the three Barcelona forwards. 

“We all get on really well and our friendship is the most important thing,” he continued. 

“Who scores the goals is not important, what’s important - as well as our friendship - is to win.” 

As well as his trident companions, he also sung Luis Enrique’s praises.

“He is a great manager, the best I’ve worked with because he gives us a lot of confidence and strength,” the 24-year-old said.
