A new chapter in the relationship between Luis Suarez and FIFA

The player had told FIFA before his teammates that he wouldn't attend The Best gala

FC Barcelona player Luis Enrique was one of the big absentees at FIFA's The Best ceremony in Zurich on Monday. The Uruguayan striker, like the rest of his teammates chosen in the FIFPro XI (Messi, Iniesta and Pique), prioritised preparing for Wednesday¡s game against Athletic Club.

However, Suarez's decision not to attend the event was taken before the other Barça players made their minds up not to go on the plane back from Villarreal on Sunday.

According to La Nacion, Suarez had communicated his decision to FIFA a week before. The reason is that he is still angry for the ban -- which was excessive in his opinion -- he was given after the incident with Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in 2014.

FIFA banned him from international football for nine months and from club football for four months, meaning he didn't make his Barça debut until October of his first season.

Remember that last year, when the Ballon d'Or was still in partnership with FIFA, Suarez also didn't go. Despite not being a finalist, he was invited due to being named the best player at the Club World Cup. He declined the invite and explained he was still annoyed with them.

FIFA'S REVENGE

Suarez's latest snub did not go down well with the organisation, not ran by Gianni Infantino. As revenge, they chose an unfortunate photograph of the player to illustrate his presence in the FIFPro side.

While the rest of the players appeared with a serious face, an official photograph, Suarez appeared with his teeth on display in an image that is not even currrent, but from five years ago when Uruguay played the Olympic Games in London in 2012.
