José Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, thinks that Coutinho's value sky-rocketed throughout the summer

Mourinho says that the Neymar transfer to PSG has changed the transfer market

José Mourinho, the Manchester United manager, has made some curious statements on the Brazilian forward Philippe Coutinho. In an interview with The Times, José Mourinho gave his unique take on Coutinho.

Mourinho commented that the Neymar signing had revolutionised the market and inflated transfer fees. “Neymar destroyed the market, it has changed everything. “If the biggest transfer in history had still been Pogba, I think Philippe Coutinho would now be in Barcelona at £101 million,” the Portuguese said.

Mourinho was also happy with Manchester United’s summer dealing. “I think we were very clever,” he said. “I think Lukaku on August 31 would have been £150m. Matic would have been £60m or £70m. We thought that something could happen that could change the market forever. Normally the last part of the market is less expensive, but this season, after Neymar, everything changed — and changed for the worse in terms of prices”.

He added that “People look to the £200m figure now. Now the players of £20m became £40m, the players of £40m became £60m and everything changed.”
