Mirror: Barcelona want Southampton defender Van Dijk
The Catalan club are interested in the Premier League centre-back
Liverpool also want the Dutchman and moved for him in the summer
FC Barcelona have shown an interest in Southampton's Dutch centre-back Virgil van Dijk. According to British newspaper The Mirror, various scouts from the Catalan club watched the player in his country's recent World Cup qualifier against Sweden.
Van Dijk is a player who Liverpool, where Barça target Philippe Coutinho plays, have been chasing. The defender even handed in a transfer request in the summer in a bid to push through a move away from the club as he doesn't have a good relationship with new coach Mauricio Pellegrino.
That came after Liverpool had been forced to officially apologise for tapping up the player earlier in the summer.
Barça, then, would have to fight with Liverpool for the services of Van Dijk, who remains keen to leave Southampton and play for a team regularly competing in European competitions.
