Milan will ask for Barcelona winger Deulofeu on loan in January
The player's liked at Barça but has not played in recent games
Barcelona hope to keep the player at the club until the end of the season
Milan have decided to ask for Gerard Deulofeu on loan in January to give him minutes. The player has had an irregular start to the season at Barcelona and has not taken on a regular starting berth following the injury to Ousmane Dembele, even though Ernesto Valverde doesn't have a wealth of attacking options.
Barça feel that Deulofeu has a role to play, though, and what him to continue, at least, until the end of the season before both parties will evaluate the options. For now, his exit has been ruled out, although it will depend on his minutes and role in the coming weeks.
In a World Cup year, Milan will offer Deulofeu the chance to be a key player in a team. It's where he played his best football and his performances in Italy earned him his return to Camp Nou.
Spain coach Julen Lopetegui has faith in the winger, but if he's not playing at Barcelona it's difficult for him to be called up. Milan know that and believe Deulofeu would feel much more comfortable in Italy.
The player's relationship with the Italian club is excellent. His spell at the San Siro was successful and in the summer they tried to sign him but Barça put a stop to any deal. The Catalan club re-signed him from Everton and gave him a first-team spot.
It's Deulofeu that must define his future. His aim is to be a success at Barça, though. That's his priority. If he's not sure he's going to get a chance, though, the January window may provide an alternative option.
