Messi has not reconsidered his international retirement

The decision of Leo Messi to retire from international football has not changed. At least at the moment.

After his post-match comments after the loss in the Copa America final, the Barça star went on holiday with the sole objective of disconnecting from football. This is exactly what he has done. 

Contrary to the content of some reports, SPORT understands that Messi has not gone back on his decision nor reconsidered at any point, which does not mean he will not do so in the coming months.

Argentina, and the rest of the world, is a clamour asking Messi to return to the national team. Politicians, teammates and even traffic signs or flight information screens have requested Leo to reconsider.

There is a general feeling of optimism around the possible participation of the player at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. There seems to be a rush in changing the situation regarding Leo's future with the national team.

His friend 'Kun' Aguero also insisted he should not leave the Argentine squad. Messi spent last Tuesday night at Aguero's home in Nordelta, before driving the following day to Rosario.

Despite being on holiday in the Bahamas, and staying out of the limelight, Messi was made aware by social media of the gathering of fans at the Obelisco in Buenos Aires.

The fans took part in a manifestation in support of the player's return to the national team under the banner #LioNoTeVayas (Lio Don't Go). 

The player felt very loved by what he saw.
