Barcelona star Leo Messi managed on Tuesday something that he had not managed before. The Argentina star had never before managed to beat Juventus and Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Biffon. It was something he still had left pending, which he finally acheived at Camp Nou, at the fourth time of asking.
Messi had faced Buffon three times before. He could not score against him, though, in the Champions League final in 2015 nor in the quarterfinal tie between the two teams last season. However, on Tuesday he could. He needed 45 minutes to do so. And the goal came after a one-two with Luis Suarez following a team move which had begun with Marc-Andre ter Stegen. In total, the goal came after 315 minutes of action against Buffon.
A goal which Messi celebrated with his team-mates, while Buffon could not hide his anger -- he had not even dived, so clinical was the finish. It was Messi's 95th goal in the Champions League and the 96th followed in the second half. Messi now has eight goals this season, seven of them coming in his last three games.
