Messi brings up 100 European goals with brilliant free-kick
The Argentine has 97 Champions League goals and three in the Super Cup
Messi scored his first European goal vs. Greek side Panathinaikos in 2005
He did not manage it at the first attempt against Sporting Lisbon, but against Olympiakos on Wednesday night Lionel Messi scored his 100th European goal in a Barcelona shirt: 97 in the Champions League and three in the European Super Cup.
Messi's goal against Olympiakos at Camp Nou took him to a century of goals in UEFA competitions. It came via a free kick in the 61st minute and was Barça's second goal in a 3-1 win.
Curiously, Messi's first European gola was also against a Greek side, Panathinaikos on Nov. 2 of 2005 in a 5-0 win. Since then, he's scored in each season, with 14 in 2011-12 his best tally.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo leads the way in this particular competition. The Portuguese forward has 113 goals in European football, although he's older than Messi and has played more games.
