The Barça star says the season is long and you have to take breaks

He is looking forward to the game against Valencia on Saturday

Leo Messi accepted his role on the bench against Juventus and admitted as much as he was awarded the European Golden Shoe on Friday.

"Whenever I'm on the bench there's a bit of fuss," admitted the Argentine. "It's true I don't like being out the team, I prefer to take part and help on the pitch, but I understand the season is long and you have to take care of yourself."

Messi played the last half an hour at Juve and is now looking forward to the game against Valencia at Mestalla.

Marcelino's side are second in the table, four points back from Barça, and Messi says they "have a great squad and a great manager, who has very clear ideas and knows how he wants to play."

Even though Messi says "it's still the start of La Liga" he also said the game "is going to be complicated, but we're looking forward to it, we're doing well and we hope we can continue at the top."
