Menotti: Lionel Messi is happy in Barcelona but not in Argentina

César Luis Menotti siente nostalgia por el fútbol que practicó el Barça de Guardiola

A pesar de eso cree que el Barça de Luis Enrique bebe en el equipo que dirigió Pep

Cesar Luis Menotti has told SPORT that Lionel Messi is happy at Barcelona, but not with Argentina.

The former Barça coach blamed the environment which surrounds Argentine football and the AFA as the principle reasons for the country’s lack of success, despite the fact they’ve reached three finals in the last three years.

“At Barcelona Messi is happy," Menotti said. "But it seems he's not allowed to be here.

“We live in so much anguish that we don't allow him to be happy and because the environment is not good, the team doesn't manage to play well.

"Without Messi we would not have got through the first round at the World Cup. When everything seems like it's falling in Argentina, Messi appears and he builds.

“But he's not happy because there is an environment of resentfulness. This is how we live."

"To have a five-star footballer, you have to respect him and take care of him.

”We haven't done that well. There are players that are at the top level in Europe and they feel the weight [of playing for Argentina] because there's an urgency for success.”
