Meet the machine helping Messi recover from his knee injury

Since Lionel Messi picked up the injury in his left knee in the game between FC Barcelona and Las Palmas, Barça and Argentina have been focused on his recovery. 

Generous rest periods, a lot of massages, some gym work and the use of some of the world's most advanced technology, always under the supervision of the Barcelona medical team and Marcelo d'Andres, who works for the Argentine national team, will be the key to getting him back in action.  

To complement the process, he using a Game Ready product. It is a cryogenic therapy machine, the system of which is based on the technology used in NASA suits. 

It costs around 3,500 euros and, according to the company's website, features a "patented, dual-action Active Temperature Exchange design that enables the simultaneous circulation of ice water and air, integrating proven compression and cold therapies like never before." 

Applied to Messi's knee, "active pneumatic (air) compression helps the body pump away swelling and stimulate the flow of oxygen-rich blood. Efficient and even cooling further reduces swelling, muscle spasms, and pain."
