MAYBE: The titles are won on the pitch, not in our dreams

MAYBE: The titles are won on the pitch, not in our dreams

Let's start with an unquestionable premise: Barça 2016/17 has a better squad than last season. That said, let's have a little look through history and take our hats off to the mythical teams that dominated the league and reigned in Europe.

A little dose of humility before entering into the subject matter. Two Liga matchdays and hardly a month of official competition invite a reasonable optimism. Analysing the current strength in depth allows us to leave aside the classic fears every time a starter gets a cold or suffers anything more than a knock.

But the reality is anything but clearcut, and warrants caution. The current project has only just begun and, apart from the Spanish Super Cup, nothing has been won. To measure the team against the historical greats can not be done nonchalantly.

It is fine praising the quality of a great squad, to enjoy a wave of talent, the like of which has never before been seen, and giving free rein to one's dreams. But a moment should arrive at which it is necessary to stop this in its tracks, and go onto the pitch to fight in those games in which something more than talent is required.

Some, the greats, have already done this in their eras; others, the current group, still have to prove themselves.
