Mascherano involved in part of Barcelona training session on Friday
He is nearing a return but will not be ready to face Atletico Madrid this weekend in the capital
Argentine international Javier Mascherano took part in a section of training with his Barcelona team-mates on Friday morning.
Luis Enrique's team are preparing for Sunday's important league game against Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon (16.15h kick off local time).
Mascherano injured his hamstring earlier this month and has missed his side's last three games. He will not be back for the clash with compatriot Diego Simeone's men, either.
However, the midfielder-cum-defender was able to do some training under the rain on Friday in a session which included Barça B players Nili, Martínez, Carbonell y Abeledo.
Along with Aleix Vidal, Mascherano is one of two first team players currently out of action. Vidal will miss the rest of the campaign with a dislocated ankle.
The Blaugrana will train again on Saturday before travelling to Madrid for Sunday's game.
