Mascherano has received an offer from Serie A champions Juventus

Javier Mascherano is an undisputed starter and a fundamental piece of Luis Enrique's Barcelona team. The Asturian coach has always had faith in him and he plays a key role in the dressing room, too, but his time at the club could end in the coming months. The player has received interest from various clubs, although he only has one offer - and it's from Juventus.

The Italian club have spent weeks talking with the Argentine's representatives and the possibility of him leaving in June is real. He would prefer to stay at Barça, but the conditions put forward by Juve are attractive, the contract is long and it would allow him to end his sporting career at the top level.

Mascherano has a contract until 2018 at Camp Nou and his release clause is 100 million euros, but at the moment he is assessing the offer from Italy. He feels happy at Barça and in the team, but he's waiting for Barça to complete a gesture they promised him last season to straighten out the relationship between the two parties.

Juventus, who want to strengthen their team for another assualt on the Champiobns League, feel the signing of Mascherano would be a big statement, allowing them to fortify the middle of their midfield and their defence, given his versatility.

The 31-year-old has also received proposals from the Premier League, although he's not ready to listen to them as he doesn't plan to return to England for personal reasons. Italy is a different matter. His representatives have also heard from clubs in China and Turkey, but none of the proposals have become firm offers. Barça will have to decide if they could do without him, although Luis Enrique is clear that he is not for sale and is a vital part of his project moving forward.
