Martin Montoya enters into the Andre Gomes deal

Martin Montoya will play at Valencia as a consequence of the domino effect that Barcelona's signing of Andre Gomes has provoked.

The right-back was one of the primary objectives of the Valencia sporting director, Suso Garcia Pitarch, to replace the departed Alberto Barragan, who has joined Middlesbrough.

From the first moment that Barça began negotiations with the Mestalla club, Montoya's name was put on the table.

The defender was due to return to pre-season training in Barcelona on August 8, after his loan spell at the end of last season with Betis, but he came back sooner than expected, despite Luis Enrique making it clear that he did not enter into Barça's first team plans.

The deal for Andre Gomes was completed for a fixed sum of 35 million euros, plus 20 million euros in add-ons, and the incorporation of two FC Barcelona players into the Valencia squad.

The second footballer involved may be Cristian Tello, who also came back to the Camp Nou this summer after a loan period, at Fiorentina.

Tello would strengthen the Valencia forward line, which has suffered from the departures of Sofiane Feghouli (to West Ham), Pablo Piatti (Espanyol), Alvaro Negredo (Middlesbrough) and Rodrigo De Paul (Udinese).
