Marc-Andre ter Stegen's strong performance at San Mames

Marc-Andre ter Stegen was the centre of attention for Barcelona against Athletic Bilbao but the German responded to those who questioned him in the best way possible.

The 24-year-old was instrumental in the Blaugrana's 1-0 win and gave a virtuoso performance with security between the sticks.

He was attentive with long balls and, most importantly, was composed when in possession amidst a high-pressing game from Los Leones.

Ter Stegen fought hard to keep his clean sheet and had to save his blushes early on after his poor pass was intercepted by Benat only for the Spaniard to shoot straight into his arms.

After the break, more of the same followed. Bilbao's pressure came raining down on the Barça goal but Ter Stegen was an immovable object as he flung his body to the left and right to deny Ernesto Valverde's team what would have been a hard, but well-earned, point.

The only moment of panic came when Benat lined up a close range free kick with moments left to play, but his effort sailed wide much to the relief of Ter Stegen who was rooted to his goal line.

In short, Ter Stegen has cemented his place as Barça's no.1.

If there were ever any doubts before this game, surely the German has put them firmly to bed.
