Luis Suarez takes to the Pyrenees to get fit for the season ahead

Although he cannot join Barcelona training until October 26 because of the monstrous penalty imposed by FIFA for biting Giorgio Chiellini, Luis Suarez has begun the strangest pre-season of his career

On his own, without help from Barcelona, the Uruguayan striker has started training during the last two weeks, despite being granted holiday until last Monday.

Sport have been told that the player from Salta is in the Pyrenees with a personal trainer to reach top condition.

He is set to return on October 26, or earlier if the Court of Arbitration for Sport decide to reduce FIFA's sanction.

They are likely to give their verdict on August 12.

The situation is Kafkaesque, for Luis Suarez is a Barcelona player to all intents and purposes, but is not allowed to train with the Barca team or even use their facilities, violating his fundamental rights as a worker.

Regardless, the Uruguayan has decided to train himself.

The Pyrenees is a great location to train because the weather is less strong than in Barcelona and the player can work without disruption.

Two years ago it was the location which Eric Abidal took for a six-day course with the physiotherapist Emili Ricart.

The Gallic player stayed in Vall d'Aran and made several trips up to Salana, of 2,483m altitude.
