Luis Enrique's thoughts on Valverde taking over from him at Barça

The Barcelona coach was asked if the Athletic Club manager would make a good successor

Barcelona manager Luis Enrique had no problem speaking about his opposite number, Athletic Club's Ernesto Valverde, ahead of the two sides' Copa del Rey game on Thursday.

Luis Enrique praised Valverde and said it's normal that he's linked with the Barça job with the Asturian yet to renew at Camp Nou -- his deal expires in June.

"I think Valverde is the person I’ve faced the most as a coach, with Celta Vigo and now Barca. With Celta we opened the new San Mames" he responded.

"He’s one of best [coaches] in Spanish football and I really like way he coaches football, his ideas, his personality and the way he transmits all that to his players, he’s a very good coach. You only have to look at the sides he's managed.

"It’s normal that he gets linked with Barcelona, whether for good or fot bad reasons, these rumours are normal."

Asked again about his renewal, Luis Enrique added: "I explained everything in that interview [with Barça TV].

"I talked about my profession and if I have anything else to say regards to that I will say it, but right now I want to talk about Copa del Rey game."
